Foundations

Ford Foundation

http://www.fordfound.org/program/edu_units.cfm?unit_name=education_and_scholarship

"The Ford Foundation is committing $330 million dollars over ten years to fund a scholarship program to provide higher education to promising members of groups --from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Russia--that are underrepresented at universities. Most of the money will go to the
International Fellowships Program. This program will allow ap to 3,500 students to pursue up to three years of master's or doctoral studies at a university of their choice anywhere in the world. "

Education and Scholarship

In Education and Scholarship we seek to increase educational access and qualityfor the disadvantaged, to educate new leaders and thinkers and to foster knowledge and curriculum supportive of inclusion, development and civic life. Grant making supports policy, research and reform programs in both schools and higher education institutions, with particular emphasis on enhancing the
performance of educational systems through improving finance, governance, accountability and training. Scholarship is supported to deepen understanding of such issues as gender, identity, pluralism and social change, as well as particular non-western areas of the world and the relationships between them.

SITES: Financial Aid For International Students

General Information - Education USA (US Department of State)

http://exchanges.state.gov/education/educationusa/finance.htm

"Each university or college makes its own decision about whether or not togrant financial aid. In general, there are very few financial aid opportunities available to foreign students, especially at the undergraduate level. Students with outstanding academic records and high SAT scores can be considered for financial aid. About 300 undergraduate institutions award significant (but usually partial) financial aid to international students. Through research at your educational advising center, you may develop a plan that maximizes your chances of admission with aid. Universities and colleges in the US may offer financial assistance to graduate students in the form of research or teaching assistantships. Funding may come as a tuition waiver or a monthly stipend for board and lodging, or both. Assistantships do not cover airfare to and from the U.S. The student should therefore look for additional funding to supplement his/her assistantship. To be competitive for assistantships, you must have a high score in the GRE or GMAT, excellent grades, strong recommendations and a clear, precise and interesting statement of purpose."

Schools with Financial Aid for International Undergraduate Students

Some US schools are more likely than others to offer financial aid for international undergraduate students. The lists below indicate which schools offer aid (including grants, loans, and jobs) to the largest numbers of international students. The lists are based on a list compiled by Douglas C. Thompson, Associate Vice President for Enrollment, The Culinary Institute of America.

To be included in the following lists, the schools must have an average award that is greater than 1/5 of the cost of attendance. The financial aid may include grants, loans, and jobs, and often includes both merit and need-based awards. Within each group, schools are listed in alphabetical order.

(Remember that a much greater number of schools provide financial aid for international graduate students in the form of teaching and research assistantships. For information about financial aid for graduate study in the US, you should contact the schools that interest you even if they aren't included in the lists below.)

It a school is not listed here, it probably does not have much financial aid for international students. However, it is worth noting that some schools may have athletic scholarships that are open to both international students and US students. The lists below do not count the number of athletic scholarships awarded to international students.
