Board of Directors
The International Institute For Global Leadership is governed by a board of
directors and an advisory council. The Board of Directors is the legal
entity responsible for the Institute and serves as a kind of 'executive
committee' for the Leadership Institute's advisory council.
We are committed to the democratic involvement of all participants as the
Institute continues to grow and evolve - with the goal that we can more
effectively serve our students and the transformation of the planet.
For this reason, in addition to the Board of Directors, we have created
an Advisory Council which works in cooperation with the Board in guiding the
growth and development of the Institute. The Advisory Council is composed of
Sponsors (financial contributors) and Students.

I
was born in the Igbo ethnic group after the Nigerian civil war. The Igbos
lost the war and great fortune. I was christen "CHUKWUDOZIE" meaning: "let
God repair" a reflection of my parent's hopes and aspirations. I realise we
are the architect of our destiny and shape our future! We have an obligation
to work for the development of our race. I have a strong vision for peace,
poverty reduction and sustainable development in Africa. I have offered
myself to be vanguard of this change. This I do through various
organisations I collaborate with.
The United Nations Organisation of Youth (UNOY), international
Secretariat in Netherlands, I worked as the Africa Desk Coordinator till
2003. I was actively involved in the International Young Christian Student (IYCS),
and held various positions. I facilitated various projects for organizations
like: Africa Youth Parliament, Nairobi, UNOY Foundation, Freetown, Africa
Renaissance Network, Makurdi, Child Rights Organisation, Aba, Children of
the Earth, Inc, USA, Apeadu Peace Center, Aburi, among many others.
I have attended training programmes in various parts of the world. This
includes Peace Building Institute of Eastern Mennonite University, Virginia,
USA. The course educating for peace in formal and informal education at
Negev Institute for Strategies of Peace & Development, Israel.
Currently,
I am the Executive Director of Centre for Human Development and Social
Transformation (CHDST). I hold a Masters Degree in Environmental Management
from the University of Cape Town. I have experience in grassroots work for
local development and youth empowerment. I have received advanced training
in project management, communication, accountability and leadership. My
vision is: 'An empowered youth capable of being the voice of the voiceless
and a beacon of light.
I enjoy travelling meeting people and making friends. I have been to
about 30 countries. In my interactions I have come to the knowledge that
people want to be understood and appreciated. The bases for most conflict
are our inability to understand ourselves.
I am outgoing, love reading and listening to classical music. I live
among the people of the Niger Delta who produce the oil wealth. Everyday
these people are faced with the uncertainty of the future and the
frustrations of the present. The people are mostly unemployed or not
meaningfully employed. Their land produces the wealth, yet they are poor.
Living among them is a challenge to build hope and a belief in the future. I
love life and I intend living it to the fullest. However, nobody can live in
a vacuum. We need each other.

I
was born to be a peacemaker. Most of my childhood was spent in rural
Alabama- the southern part of the United States of America. This was during
the turbulent birth of civil rights activities. In a strongly codependent
community, I learned the strength of personal integrity and dedicated work
ethics. Now I am astutely aware of our family's ignorance of and isolation
from the global arena. I see our sheer unawareness of how our actions
affected the bigger picture. We seemed to be mostly spiritually asleep and
focused on physical survival with weekly attention to fundamentalist
religious dogma.
Many years and several careers later, in addition to serving IIGL, I
presently serve as a Minister of Peace with The Beloved Community. This
ministry offers opportunities to serve joyfully in a “ministry of the
moment”. Not only is this fun, it includes a wide variety of experiences. I
also serve as a board member for The Beloved Community.
I am currently quite delighted to serve the Evolutionary Impulse (my soul's
need to express) through a variety of volunteer work. Locally, I joyfully
work as a Diplomatic Corps volunteer with International Services which
allows me to experience expanded awareness of many global cultures when we
accommodate visitors invited by the US State Department who focus on a wide
range of objectives. My responsibilities may include: day tour guide,
airport greeting and transportation, group dinners or overnight housing for
1-3 guests.
I have learned that one way to live peace is to assist and encourage others
to connect to Divine Essence and to allow an authentic expression of that to
emerge as a powerful force in the world. It is evident that most of us have
daily opportunities to self-correct and to close the gap between what we
hold as core values and how we actually live in the world. It is my heart's
desire to live authentically and with transparency.
Another part of the authentic process involves empowering the energies of
the divine feminine in both men and women. Then, we will feed all the hungry
peoples of the world, we will require of ourselves 100% personal
self-responsibility, and we will know how to co-exist in harmony with all
forms of life on this precious planet.

I
am a 46 years old mother of three children, two boys and a girl. I am
Zimbabwean by birth, currently living in South Africa. As a Christian I have
worked for social justice all my life. Starting with the Lutheran church
where I was a Sunday school teacher at 12 and a youth leader at 15 years of
age.
In adolescence I got involved in the struggle for the liberation of my
country. During this period I started literacy programmes for illiterate
girls in the refugee camp. When I got back home I continued to participate
in forums that questioned the values of the struggle and audited the
performance of the liberation movements as 'Government'. Although this
created problems for me, I am still convinced that working for social and
economic justice is the purpose of my being. I worked in the cooperative
movement and set up adult education programs for cooperative members who in
the majority were former freedom fighters.
I worked for The Ministry of Community Development for 9 years. During this
period I worked on community research projects with a team of four people.
The results were +- 15 publications mostly on the themes of leadership,
social, political and economic justice. Due to high demand for books and
services we left the government and formed Africa Community Publishing. The
books are used by grassroots and civil society organizations in Zimbabwe and
other countries. Working on these books was a learning curve in my life. I
began to understand what writers like Freire mean by 'organic intellectual'
I learnt so much from the old men and women I talked to than I got from
school and some of the books I read.
As mentioned earlier I started a rural libraries organization for the
purposes of accessing information to the marginalized and the poor. To date
the project supplies +- 200 rural libraries with books.
I was also actively involved in poverty reduction projects through the UNDP
and The Poverty Reduction Forum of Zimbabwe housed at the Institute of
Development Studies at the University of Zimbabwe. Currently I am a
volunteer facilitator with The Training for Transformation Programme at the
Cape Town Grail Center in South Africa (http://home.mweb.co.za/gr/grailoff).
I volunteer in the center's community development programmes. I am currently
designing training modules for community activists training.
I love reading and writing poetry, biographies and history. It stimulates
me. It's a vibe that I could never live without. I love participating in
discourse on themes such as 'world order' and 'alternatives' from the
perspective of the poor. I do read a lot of books on leadership,
spirituality, psycho-social. I also love walking and having space to be with
myself. I am a very spiritual person, have respect for nature as a result I
enjoy listening to the melody that comes out of classic music, sounds from
the wind, singing birds and the waves from the ocean.

My
life work is to help restore Harmony - within the individual, within
relationships, and within systems. I do this through facilitation,
mediation, coaching, training, and the practice of alternative healing arts.
I am the founder of Bridges of Peace in Santa Fe, NM and currently serve on
the Boards of Children First and the International Institute for Global
Leadership. Living my belief that we each are created to be of service to
others, I volunteer for a variety of community service organizations around
the USA.
I have been a trainer in communication and leadership skills for over 25
years, working with institutions and in the private sector, and have
provided facilitation and mediation services for a wide variety of
organizations and state agencies, specializing in meeting the unique needs
of non-profit organizations.
My work is focused on bringing seemingly discordant voices together in
collaborations which produce wisdom, growth and harmony, and result in the
greatest number of needs being met for the greatest number of people.

have a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of South
Florida, and a Masters degree in Social Work from Barry University in Miami,
Florida. I have worked with many diverse populations, including: Hospice
patients and their families, at risk youth and runaways, the HIV/AIDS
population, LGBT's, Substance Abusers, and those afflicted with mental
illness. I also had a private practice in Florida where I counseled
individuals and couples on improving relationships, communication, and
conflict resolution, among other things. I have conducted many workshops and
trainings on how to work with children, how to deal with grief and loss,
opening to and expressing ones creativity, and drumming and percussion.
I was raised in an eclectic household where I was exposed to spirituality,
metaphysics, art, and music from a very young age. I believe in living life
to the fullest and experiencing as much as possible while we are here in
this lifetime. I am an artist, writer, and musician who loves spending as
much time as possible outdoors. I treat everyone I come in contact with, and
everything I do, with love and a deep appreciation. I believe that love is
our ultimate goal in life and that with love we can transform the world.
I am also a student of IIGL. I was attracted to IIGL by the curriculum and
reading lists. Many of the books are authors that I was quite familiar with
and I seized an opportunity to read and learn more. I intend on using what I
learn to inspire my life and work, and the lives of others.

I read a quote years ago that has been useful to me every since. The gist
was that it's more effective to create what you want in the world than to
fight against what you don't want. That is one of many reasons I was drawn
to IIGL. I also appreciate the intercultural nature of the program since
culture is one of my passions. I work as a writer and editor for a company
in India, for international Ph.D. students, and for school districts as well
as teach World Cultures at a Minnesota college. To balance all the computer
time, I work in the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore where we recycle all
kinds of housing materials and items. Wherever I go, I love to learn from my
experiences and from the people around me.

I
share the beliefs that this institute supports through this wonderful
program. I have learned so much about what IIGL can do for the youth of this
world by being a mentor for the past 5 years. I recommend that all people
associated with this wonderful program become a mentor to one of our
students for at least one year. Be the difference in someone's life.
I resonate with the oneness of all mankind and the total galactic adventure.
I share this truth/love with those I connect with as often as it shows up,
through listening, sharing, and transforming their energy through massage,
matrix energetics, reiki, or hypnosis. My joy and passion for over 30 years
is assisting people with their healing at all levels; mental, emotional,
physical and spiritual. I love passing on inspiring, informative books,
videos, or materials to others, that their lives may be blessed.

been more of hands on and practical as opposed to theory and this has
grounded my knowledge on the needs of clients.
I haave been a life long student of life and got an opportunity in 2002

restoration of good governance in Kenya. In the long run the movement seeks
to enable individual Kenyans to contribute to the governance process of the
country without compromising their aspirations. The association is largely
driven by volunteers with some support from working Kenyans.
Elizabeth Tepper
Caracas, Venezuela
I've
learned that Happiness, Peace and Freedom to express myself are my goals and
those of all human beings, but we are usually unaware of this. I was born in
Denmark and live in Caracas, Venezuela. Two continents apart, but a lot of
love in common. Venezuela is home, here I gave birth and raised two
wonderful men. I've loved and cried my heart out in this beautiful country.
However, I know I am truly a World citizen!
I am dedicated to teaching and facilitating personal and organizational
processes. I am a Genuine ContactTM Professional, an NLP (NeuroLinguistic
Programming) Coach, Trainer and Master Practitioner; and recently graduated
in Family Constellations (Systemic Therapy). All of this plus other things
that have made me understand that there are many ways of reaching the same
goal of being a whole person.
I met Michael Lightweaver in 2002 and decided to become a student of IIGL.
Being a part of the Institute as a student gave me a chance to see that
education can also work differently: How useful is what we are learning??
How does it influence your life??
Those are some of the questions we have to answer in our assessments. As
of Dec. 2005, I took on the responsibility for developing the Spanish
Division of IIGL, which has been transferred to Carlos Leiton in Costa Rica.
I believe change comes from within, we can only create changes around us
when we are willing to do so in our personal lives. Then, can we influence
our families, then our friends and those closest to us, and then the
community as a whole. If we can provoke this consciousness in one person,
only one, we will have been able to start a change. This one person is 'I'.
Am I peaceful enough to ask for peace? Am I fair enough to ask for fairness
and justice? This is where my present work aims at; awareness of the
responsibility we have on every choice we make for our lives and those
around us. It's the small stuff that make the difference, greeting those
around us, giving a helping hand whenever we can, asking for help when we
need it, understanding we have rights, as well as responsibilities. We can
make a difference in remembering that WE are to ones we are waiting to make
a difference!!!

Erick Omari
Nairobi, Kenya
My
names are Erick Kebeka Omari, I was born on 15th January 1982, in Kibera, My
ethnicity is Mkisii from Gucha District, Nyamache Location and Nyoera
Sub-location. We are Six in our family and I am the elderest.
My parents passed away on 23rd March 2003 in an auto accident. This left
me being responsible for my young brothers and sisters. Before they got the
accident I was a member in one of the youth group (ICYE, International
Cultural Youth Exchange), in Nairobi, the organization is based in Westland,
and during that time I was supposed to travel to Finland for an exchange
programme. We had to contribute for our traveling expenses and stipend.
Being that I am from a poor family background, my parents tried all the best
to get some money from all sources, including well wishers, but all in vain.
After my parents death I started facing life squarely. I was now the sole
bread winner of my little siblings, Circumstances forced me to look for a
job, (any job), I got a job in a pharmaceutical company (P.M.C), as a casual
laborer, I use to work on the basis of two weeks and given off duty of one
week, but the one week could be extended depending on the demand of the
work, my pay was less than a dollar for eight hours.
During my off-duty I started doing volunteering in various organization,
New Life Christian brothers in Kibera, a catholic organization, whereby we
used to visit the sick and the prisoners, with one of my friend who is a
catholic brother by the name George Dev (Indian). We gave the sick &
prisoners hope and purpose of life, this gave me strength and reason of
living, and I accepted my situation, we also educated the prisoners on
behavior change. I met also one of my friend on the social field, a
Benedictine brother, by the name Augustine who also became my best friend,
he used to give me some support in every aspect of life, He is ministering
in the social science field in Nanyuki at the moment whereby we network with
him, he is also teaching African bible on the ground, which covers a five
hectare, with traditional huts (houses) elaborating different values of
African teaching, in Christianity.
When I was free (not working in P.M.C) I could team up with him, for
various activities, in one of the organization called Ruben Centre in Mukuru
Slum, indeed he also gave me some light on the reality of life. I could
assist him in coming up with youths activities such as, songs, poems,
Theater for development , discuss proposals and writing, work plan, write
social cases and Proposal Budget and at the end of the day he could be
generous enough to give me something for my upkeep.
These activities inspired me very much, and gave me courage to face
people infected and affected in HIV/Aids pandemic, orphans, whereby I am one
of them. We could make visits to home ridden patients and offer them some
moral support and clean ups, visit to children homes, like St Thomas
Banardoes. And do volunteering services.
Most of the Youths in Kibera slum are jobless, and do all evil
activities, immoralities, drug abuse, rape, robbery with or without
violence, among others. The children are being misused and mistreated, a lot
of child labor, child abuse and neglect, child abandoned is paramount in the
slum.
I thought deeply on what I can do to curb the situation, there is a lot
of potential in the people of the slum what they lack is opportunities,
exposure, information and chances, that is when I thought about ALFA, I came
up with few individuals whom we had common goals including that Benedictine
Friend of mine. So we came up with the name ALFA NETWORK, which stands for A
better Life For All. Indeed people need a better life especially in Kibera
Slum.
I am educating the children on their rights in the slum, I have been
assisted some teaching materials with ANPPCAN KENYA. (AFRICAN NETWORK FOR
THE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION AGAINST CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT), the
information as been very handy and useful to me. Usually what I am doing I
am not paid for, it is out of good will and sharing experience on what I
have undergone., as the saying goes “Indeed whoever who assist now may need
to be assisted tomorrow”, who knows! The kids I am dealing with now may be
prominent people tomorrow, assist them willingly, for there is blessings in
giving than receiving. Thanks. I have an award in behavior change course
from Riara Health projects, Project leadership from (KARDS) Koinonia
Advisory Research and Development services.
Noeline Kirabo
Kampala, Uganda
Noeline
Kirabo Mulongo is my name. I joined IIGL in 2005 and I sought for something
to spur me onto my next level. I have learnt a lot along the way and my life
is getting better and better by the day. Five years down the road and there
is tangible evidence to the difference that the IIGL studies have made in my
life. My perspective of life has totally changed for the better and has
affected the lives of those around me in several ways.
I am currently the coordinator for IIGL student’s body and the book
distributor for Uganda. I find pleasure in serving and inspiring others to
reach their full potential. Over the past one year, the student body in
Uganda is steadily growing as more young people are challenged to reach for
more than the formal education program can offer.
I am also a correspondent student with Uganda Institute of Family
Counseling which is affiliated to the Australian Institute of Family
counseling as a second year student pursuing Bachelors in Christian
counseling and family therapy. I am currently the students’ guild president
for the Ugandan chapter. I am passionate about helping people and making a
difference in the lives of others. Counseling is one way I can help others
reach their full potential. I am currently practicing my counseling skills
as a volunteer at Watoto church counseling department which is based in
Kampala, Uganda.
I currently work with Viva Africa network which is Christian child
focused organization working towards helping small indigenous organizations
and churches to become more child friendly and to have internal structures
and policies. Our aim is to see all children at risk reaches with the love
of God and offered a safe as well as protective environment in which they
can thrive and flourish to reach their full potential.
I have been on the Board of directors for the past one year; this will be
my second year. I am pleased to be able to serve my fellow students and
humanity at large. I am a people person; I easily get along with others and
enjoy traveling. I am into pen palling as a hobby and I enjoy hearing from
others as well as learning about other places. IIGL is truly making a
difference all over the world. The truth is people do not care how much we
know until they know how much we care. It is not just about the books, it is
about making tangible difference in the lives of others. The world needs a
new breed of people that will dare to think beyond their own interests. I
challenge you to be one of us!
