As A Man Thinketh
Assessment by Agamah Adukwu Joseph

1. Discuss the main ideas that you found most important in this book and discuss why they were important to you?

Firstly, I will say god bless the author for writing this type of inspirational book. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. Yes, it is so because through the course of reading this book it has been became obviously clear that thought is a unseen seed that is planted in the heart or mind of a person, during this time it not seen but still gathering momentum. Although with an opportunity it comes out into manifestation as character. So its true as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. It is wonderful.

Secondly, I consider this very important. Man is a growth by law and not a creation by artifice. A noble and God-like character is not a thing of favour or chance, but is the natural result of continued effort in right thinking the effect of long-cherished association with God-like thoughts. That aspect is admirable to me because for the first time, I ever know that there is law of thinking or thoughts. So to live a God-like and noble life is the act of continued effort to cherish. Indeed, it is clear to me that I should cherish my vision and thinking.

Thirdly, He that seeketh findeth, and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. For only by patience, practice, and ceaseless importunity can a man enter the door of the temple of knowledge. In fact this is biblical principles; it means that I can achieve what I want to achieve by my continuous search.

Fourthly, to avoid weakness, abject poverty and falling, a man can only rise, conquer and achieve by lifting up his thoughts. This possible because situation and circumstances does not make a man but his thoughts. Therefore, if he is above the circumstances and situation before him, he will remain himself forever.

Fifthly, there can be no progress or achievement without sacrifice; this book had made me to know the importance and gravity of sacrifice. Sacrifice is a sure great step to be taken in ones life, without sacrifice its in possible for one to fulfilled in life. I see sacrifice as an opportunity cost any achievement and progress. Sacrifice creates harmony with the mind and the urge to achieve and progress.

2. Can you relate the ideas or concepts in this book to your personal circumstances in life such as your relationship, your beliefs, your goals, and your values?

In fact, the ideas of this book directed toward motivation of an individual to become self-reliant and self-motivated and self-empowerment. This book has improved me very well especially my relationship towards people. Before I am easily provoked by people's mis-deeds and activities towards me. This made me very temperate and retaliates at a slightest provocation. Now I have changed, I see peoples mistake as the effects of their negative thoughts. Even people said that am more mature now than before. One obvious example is that during the time I am still reading this book, a lady provoked me and I became very angry and about to take an irrational decision but I calm myself. Because “calmness is power” and really it lately proved to be so, because that same lady thinking I will take an irrational action, to her but to her greatest surprise I didn't. I remain calm. I want to tell you that it's magic after all. She now respects me with all humility.

Concerning, my beliefs, well I will say this write-up really strengthen my belief because my thoughts of attaining perfection in life is unveiled through the belief that I can make it through the cultivation of the right seeds of thoughts towards achievement and progress in that direction. If bible can be added again in fact this book should first be added. I want to also say that this book read my mind and beliefs.

Indeed, without missing words my goals, is been aided by this write-up. That I can achieve with right thoughts that are in harmony with me. A man should conceive of a legitimate purpose in his heart, and set out to accomplish it. He should make this purpose the centralizing point of his thoughts. My every day life is to accomplish a setting goals it make me a happy man. Knowing the fact that the will to do springs from the knowledge that we can do. Therefore, I tried my best possible to conquer doubt and fear. Now I can attain my goals.

Without making a mistake, my value toward life is that life is a perfect knowledge through law and perfect love. In addition, to be free, to sow the of thought and actualize it.

3. What are the most important new ideas or concepts you learned from this book?

In fact, in have learned many new ideas from reading this book. All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts, with this idea it has become so obvious that all the lack of successes and successes, I have recorded in my life are the work of my thoughts. Indeed, if the thought keep on saying I will make it perhaps it will be so, after all God even says in the scripture that if you seek, you will find.

Secondly, He who would accomplish little needs sacrifice little, he who would achieve much sacrifice much. He who would attain highly must sacrifice greatly. Yea, I can even attest to this, because one time in my life, there was need for me put more in a project (Business) put I was afraid. Instead, I kept little money into the business and at last, the business was successful but my profit margin was too low, for my liking.

Thirdly, the body is the servant of the mind. In fact this is true because since I read this book I had put it into practice. I made up my that I will be taken my bath as early as 5.a.m everyday despite the cool. I keep on doing it as I said. Because my mind keeps on waking me, up at exactly 5 a.m. I have no option but to obey my mind. Even when I receive this book my mind through my thought, say that at least within five days I should sent back my assessment. To my greatest surprise, I accomplish it.

Fourthly, if you would perfect your body guard your mind. If you would renew your body, beautify your mind. Thoughts of malice, envy and disappointment, despondency, rob the body of its health and grace. A sour face does not come by chance; it is made by sour thoughts. Perhaps, it is clear that perfect mind, good thinking and positive mind frame guard against attack of diseases of any type. No wonder God been the greatest psychologist through the bible say let the weak say am strong and let the sick say am healed. Because he knows that, there is power in the belief of one or a person. In addition, when Jesus is about to heal, he always said that “do you belief” or “your faith has healed you”. I now realized that there is power in ones believe and it built through the power of thought.

4. Has this book challenged or changed our thinking in any way?

If I will this book has not contributed or influence me in any way, then am a liar. Ever since I read this book my life had not remain the same again. I tried as much as I would to search and remove any negative thoughts in mind. To allow the positive one only to prosper, knowing thoughts are seeds cultivated in the mind and to later express itself out through character and achievement at maturity. I have also developed my mind to do my best always in any thing I do. This also made me to have this belief that “I must finish whatever I start”. People even said that am too serious in anything I do.

5. Are there ideas in the book that you totally disagree with?

In fact is the author of this book, a prophet or a pastor. I want to know. As far as I am concern, this book is a perfect, well-articulated and inspirational write-up. In as much as I tried my best possible to find any articles that is contrary to my beliefs, I could not find. There are no ideas in the book that I totally disagree with to be frank.

6. What did you find most helpful and least helpful in this book?

A particular train of thought persisted in, be it good or bad, cannot fail to produce its results on the character and circumstances. A man cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, so indirectly, yet surely, shape his circumstances. With positive thoughts, one can make it no matter how difficult it looked like. However, with negative thoughts it is very difficult even to achieve the simplest things. Even the soul attracts that which it secretly harbors, that which it loves and that which it fears. This creates a health orientation in me.

7. In 50 words or less, please describe the main idea the whole book is trying to convey?

The book “As a man thinketh” is an inspirational book. Which main idea or focus is to orientate, informs and educates man or woman that he / she can make it to any level in life through the development of a right frame of mind and thoughts. Because it is obvious that as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.

A. How interesting was it to read?
This book is very interesting to read because when I started reading it. It seen to me that I have never read any book like this before, so I put all my attention into it. In fact I enjoyed reading it again and again.

B. How helpful were the content?
The contents are very helpful to every day living because it is practicable. If one is confused in life just read the book and it will just give one the direction of life through the power and law of thought.

C. How easy was it to understand?
This book is as easy as ABC to understand. Even an uneducated man or woman can still understand the write-up because it is written to influence the mind through the power of thought. The mind does not have age, so it for all who are willing.

D. Would you recommend it to others?
Sure, I have started. Even through my speaking, I can't but to use some of the words from the book. If I want any person to think or reason the way I do, I simply give him the book and inform about the institute.

E. What is the over all rating you would give it?
Simply 10. It as good as ten. The rating of this book is 10. Yes, I mean it its very good for the willing mind.

My comments.
In fact, this book read my mind. I am on the project of writing a book. I have been gathering materials and ideas for this book. “The power of thoughts”. The book as a man thinketh is good for any who want to be a leader. And not only such fellow but for all and a sundry.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull
Assessment by Agamah Adukwu Joseph

Part 1: Review of Contents
Jonathan Livingston seagull is such an impeccable and inspired young man. The main points as far as am concern are:

Goal:
This also means the dream of Jonathan Livingston seagull is to become the greatest gull of his time. This made flying mean more to him than just eating. He loved to fly.\

Determination:
Seagulls as you know, never falter never stall. In the history of the seagulls it is a dishonor to falter and stall but the courage Jonathan Livingston muster to overcome the situation is highly regarded to me. This goes a long way to show the courage and determination to his vision. Just as the bible says even thought you fall seven times you shall surely rise again, if you are determined.

Focus:
Iin any situation one finds oneself, one needs to be focus on what he is doing or intends doing. Jonathan's mum said “Jon” you are bones and feathers. Indeed no one on earth can tell you who you are but it is you alone that can do that. As he sank low in the water, a strange hollow voice sounded within him. There is no way around it. I am seagull. And am limited by nature. I believe that with focus one can excel, if he does not allow the negative thought of the mind affect him. In this situation Jonathan almost lost his goal through negative thoughts of being just a natural and ordinary young man like the flocks.

Consistence:
Like Jonathan Livingston seagull he was consistent in training and learning all through his life. It is obviously clear that continuous training and learning, allows him to discovered that short wings is needed to fly faster than he has been flying before. Also to prove that the continuous learning pays is witnessed in the life of Jon when his improvement in flying from seventy, ninety and hundred and twenty miles per hour. It is highly imperative to keep on learning in life. This help Jonathan, when he found that a single wingtip feather moved a fraction of an inch, give a smooth sweeping curve at the tremendous speed. In addition, that moving more than one feather at that speed will spin you like a riffle ball, which made him the first aerobatics.

Achievement:
Despite the remarks given to Jonathan to stand to center for shame. It never deter the young man from doing what he loves doing, is just an achievement to him. The break through of Jonathan Livingston seagull came after being labeled as an outcast. His urge for achievement and result was never quench in any way because his thought was not touched. According to him, everything that limits us then we have to put a side. Moreover, he believes that human's body being nothing more than thought itself.

Perfection:
Jonathan Livingston seagull is one with such rare qualities. In the quest to touch heaven, he got perfection. This means that in order to get to your destiny you must see that you are there already. This mean you must overcome space and time, if you overcome space you are here, and if you overcome time, it is now. According to my belief it is what you do between here and now that will take you to perfection. To become perfect you need a mentor who is in person of the great gull Chiang, his mentorship to Jonathan change the whole life of Jon to purse perfection with all means. Knowing that any figure is a limit and the saying of Chiang that heaven is not a place, and it is not a time but heaven is being perfect. The gulls that scorn perfection for the sake of travel go nowhere, but those who put aside travel for the sake of perfection go anywhere. To me it means if you are pursing a goal do not do it for the benefit accrued to it (Money) but do it for the joy and goal attached to it.

PART 2 - Personal Impact
Indeed this book by Richard Bach is very nice and healthy for all and sundry to read. The personal impact of this book is too much for an average mind to comprehend and understand but it takes only the matured mind and those who want to be matured to comprehend and understand the impact and valve of Jonathan Livingston.

Firstly, this book had given me thorough insight of the need to purse my goals and dreams with absolute passion and seriousness. As far as I am concern Jonathan is a hero who needs to be understood and emulated. I am a person who also has goals in life but had a problem on how to deliver those goals to destiny. Since I read this book my orientation to make it in life become a reality to me. When Jonathan started to sink low in the water a strange hollow voice sounded within him. There's no way around it. I am seagull. I am limited by my nature. I must fly home to the flock and be content as I am, as a limited seagull. In fact, Jonathan thought is not limited to him alone, in that situation.

Even I myself had made up my mind not to purse my dream any longer because I was not born with silver spoon. Silver spoon here means (money, fortunes). My thoughts was that only those who are born with silver spoon can make it to their dreams in life. There was a time in my life I tried as much as possible to be admitted into a university or a polytechnic but no avail. I kept on trying but it reached a setting that I became tired and I said to myself that I would not try again. The fact is, ever since I said that, I became very angry and restless to myself. I cannot sleep and no body to help me. I began to think only those that have connection can get admission into the tertiary institution. I made up my mind to remain uneducated and contented the way I was. However, verily I say today, that situation and negative frame of mind changed because that was not what I really wanted in life. I said to myself after two years, just try it again just for once. And indeed, it works I became admitted into the federal polytechnic Ede Osun State.

Secondly: this has proved that faith without work is impossible. Some how I believe that faith enables one to believe what he/she has not seen. Although Chiang said, “forget about Faith”. I am a good Christian, faith cannot be forgotten because it is the engine (machine) of our vision and goals. Through faith, you must seek to understand what ever you want to become. Just keep on trying repeatedly, you will be perfect. I like the way Jonathan discovered himself that “I am a perfect unlimited gull”. Since I read this book, I have become a motivator and aspirator to myself and other people close and afar. I always tell them that they should see their self as already there in their destiny. I pray God should give me the mind of Jonathan Livingston seagull, although from what I had read, I am well inform and equip that with the power of thought I can get to my destiny without any limitation my new thoughts now is that I have already arrived. I want to be a successful person in Business and Politics. Jonathan had informed me that I could achieve it through my thoughts and work towards perfection. Perfection is my heaven, I love heaven, and I will build my heaven through my hard work and my thoughts. Before, you can get to perfection you need to signify your interest to learn and learn more. Jonathan asks question, he said could you teach me to fly like that.

Chiang: of course, if you wish to learn.
Jonathan: I wish, when can we start?
Chiang: we could start now, if you would like.
Jonathan: I want to learn to fly like that, tell me what to do.

What an adventurous mind like Jonathan. Here I can say that Jonathan share some of my qualities. In fact, I like asking questions, am adventurous, inquisitive and optimistic in nature. I remember that my teachers and mentors always said I ask too much question on issues. Am not ashamed of even asking the simplest question, All am after is to get the right answer to make me perfect, in that area of endeavors. I so much like learning, because it open the to knowledge and close the to ignorance. I believe that Jonathan is a hero not only to the seagull also the world in general.

PART 3:
There are books and there are books but the book that have impart on one is the most valuable. To me, this book is one of the most important books I had ever read in life. Perhaps Jonathan Livingston seagull is one in a million. The value attached to this book is incomparable to anything of it kind. This book is very interesting, entertaining and enlighten. Since I had read this book my level of orientation has changed. Any thing is achievable through the power of thought and hard work towards achieving the desired goals.

For the first time, I ever imagined that perfection is ones heaven. One can build his heaven by constant practice until one gets to his perfection. That any level one attained in life is a limitation, even million is a limitation. However, one should try to get to his perfection, it only at that level that is not a limit. In addition, you have the freedom to be yourself, your true self. The only true law is that which leads to freedom. It has become obvious that constant practice takes one thousands of year head of his time. Nevertheless, indeed I totally disagree with Chaing that said, “forget about faith”. What can any one do without faith, I personally see Jonathan Livingston seagull as an epitome of great faith.

I commend this book to every one body wants to make impart on earth. As a further step, I have started given this book to friends to inspire them. Finally, this book is inspirational which makes one feel and think that the world is in the fingertip through the power of thought. It helps one to see himself as already been there, even in a real sense still far from attaining the set goal. This book preaches self-confidence and self-reliance. Orients the reader towards leadership, to become a leader one must do away, with any form of discouragement and victimization.

Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude
Assessment by Agamah Adukwu Joseph (Nigeria)

1. Discuss the main ideas that you found most important in this book and discuss why they were important to you?

It is gladden to know that one is poor- not because God wanted it so but because of our ignorance and lack of action we are poor indeed. I found out that poverty is as a result of our desire for it. For instance if we desire to be rich, we can be rich with positive mental attitude because this book has reveal to us that what the mind of a man conceived he can achieve. In addition, it is well known to me now that I have everything to gain and nothing to lose by trying. Success is achieved and maintained by those who keep trying with positive mental attitude. The ideas in this book are numerous and outstanding it became obviously clear that faith without works is dead. The fact that god is behind us, who can be against us? Nobody.

One of the major intric in this is that despite the motivation, am still the only person who can make it for myself and nobody else. This can only be gone only by my decision. The fact that necessity motivate you to high achievement through your personal honesty and integrity. I got to know through this book.. Will you dare to explore the power of your mind? This question is like a bombard in my mind. Which proof the truth out of it, that my mind has or posses mystical powers “known and unknown” you have got a problem? That's good| for it's the seeds of greater benefits for those who have positive attitude. Without missing words, this is infact wonderful, before now my thoughts is that if one have problem it is a constrain but now let problem comes it is a stepping stone to my success through P M A. Now is the time to act, do it now. This is a self-motivator to me indeed this is reason why am writing my assessment despite my tight schedule. This is the way I sing it DO IT NOW, DO IT NOW. It a wonderful experience. “Anything in life worth having is worth working for” the legacies of ANDREW CARNEGIE. This question puzzle my mind before now, is there a short cut to riches? I can as well say yes with 17 success principles. If I do not have money, I should use other people's money that terrific. This idea also helpful to me, sow an act and you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny.

In time past, I was looking for principal that can make me successful in my field of endeavor but since I read this all this important ideas I had mention above are the most ideas that answer my questions to be successful in life. Positive mental attitude is the key word. It importance to me will not be under emphasized.

2. Can yon relate the ideas or concept in this book to your personal circumstances in life such as your relationships, your beliefs, your goals, your values, etc? Explain.

Infact, this book is worth reading, in the time past I thought that anything that am passing through, am the only one that is witnessing it and nobody but ever since I had read this book it became clear that I am not the only one that had passed or passing this troubles and rough path. Since am not the only one on this path, am highly motivated that even the sky is not my limit but my stepping block to a higher ground. Perhaps this book has enhanced my relationship with other that anything or actions I felt as an annoying from others. And I rather consider it to my fault because I also has same tendency to do so. As the book as stated “if your feelings are frequently hurt because of what people say, or how they say it, it is quite likely that you yourself are frequently guilty of offending others by what you say or how you say it. Try to determine the true reasons for your reactions of hurt feelings and then avoid causing the same reactions in others.” With the help of this book, it has made me balanced especially in the areas of winning friends and influencing people. Can you imagine, my value to life now has increased tremendously one of the major area is in my personality and believe. The success quotient analysis questions have exposed my individuality that I had a problem and I say to myself “a problem at is good.” Now I am doing every thing to inproof my personal value and relationship to other people. Indeed am in love with this “sow an act and you reap a habit, sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny.”

I had a goal of becoming one of the richest business Administrator. This urge became more pronounce when I read this book especial the aspect that talked about the author NAPOLEON HILL, W. CLEMENT STONE and ANDREW CARNEGIE. They aim very high and this later became part of them, when they achieve their heart desire in their various field of endeavours. When am still ignorant about life, then I had not read this book.
Michael, my belief, values, personality, relationship, goals and my person have now changed for the better with positive mental attitudes. since then I don't think any body can hurt me or I have any problem. Because, if hurt or ran into problem with PMA.I see it as a stepping-stone to my freedom and achievement.

3. What are the most important new ideas or concepts you learned from this book?

If I say “learned” is an understatement but indeed this book is more a teacher to me than to say “learned”. For me to continue expressing myself I don't think this space can contain but let me state it this way. As Abraham Lincoln once said.” It has been my observation that people are just about as happy as they make up their mind to be.” I learned that to be happy make others happy. I learned that, if. If I do my best to try never to violate your honor by lying or cheating and always try to fulfill the responsibility with which you are entrusted.
I learned that, I should have the courage to face the truth. To find satisfaction in my job. Because satisfaction is a mental attitude. That I can also find satisfaction in my job, if I do what comes naturally. I learned that, if I don't have money I should use other peoples money. And even Conrad Hilton is a man of credit despite how wealthy he is. I learned the most important factors to success in selling are in order of importance (a) inspiration to action (b) knowledge of a successful sales technique (c) knowledge of the product. I learned the secret of getting things done, is by “DO IT NOW”. Also to do something and pay nothing. I learned to learn to see. In addition, that hope is the magic ingredient in motivating, others and I. I learn the 10 basic motives, self-preservation, love, fear, sex, desire for life after death, freedom of body and mind, anger, hate, desire for recognition and self- expression and the desire for material wealth.

Indeed, I learned that “I have got a problem? That's good! For it's the seeds of greater benefit for those who have PMA.”

4. Has this book challenged or changed our thinking in any way?

Simply yes, this book challenged and changed my thinking in numerous way. Mike, I thought I was a perfect gentleman but since I read this book, I felt I had a problem, which is good for a start. In the area of the success quotient analysis questions. It indeed exposed me in various ways which I had already started making an amendments. In the self- discipline questions I failed. In the teamwork questions I also failed not because I wanted to fail but because it is my habit which has turned into my character but this book has proofed that it can not lead to my destiny because I had already started changing it to the right habit and ways that can lead to my destiny. How to raise your energy level. When I read that, I found out my energy level is too low for me to be able to achieve any thing. I have now increased my energy level. By conditioning my mind and body simultaneously. Some times ago I think, becoming anything in life is through fortunes or luck. But this book tells me that is through the mind of the individual with the help of the conscious and sub-conscious mind of the person and with divine help.

I never thought that there is a short cut to riches. According to the definition, shortcut is a way of accomplishing something more directly and quickly than by ordinarily taken. Then I also say it is a magic or “na ojoro” or the person “de use juju.” However, this book has cleared the cobwebs from my thinking. The short cut mean accurate thinking with reason, which is known as logic. The “DO IT NOW” syndrome can achieve this short cut.

5. Are there ideas in the book that you totally disagree with?

TO BE FRANK NO.

6. What did you find most helpful and least helpful in this book?

I can only say of the helpful things in the book, which is as follows.
“anything in life worth having is worth working for”.
“what! Giving again?” I ask in dismay
“ and must I keep giving and giving away”
“oh no” said the angel looking me through,
“just keep giving till the master stops giving to you.”
That which you share with others will multiply and that which you with hold will diminish. “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, he can achieve”. One good idea followed by action can change failure into success. This is very helpful.

7. In 50 words or less, please describe the main idea the whole book is trying to convey?

The book is a pace setter that was why Andrew Carnegie say “anything worth having is worth work or pray for”. The book has giving all it takes for one to become successful in life, it is a self motivational book for all who want to excel in life like NAPOLEON HILL and his likes.

Without any form of emotion and hypocrisy and from a fair judgment, the rating is simply 10. It is as good as 10.

My comments.
